Our Post currently does not have a permanent facility to call home. On Dec 12, 2022 the Deltona City Commission directed the acting city manager to enter into a long term lease agreement with our Post for the 2.3 acre property adjacent to the Veterans Park and Museum. We are awaiting negotiations and the signing of the lease before we can begin raising funds to build our permanent home. Our thanks to the Deltona City Commission for recognizing the veteran need in our community and helping our Post to fulfil that need.
The Post, Auxiliary, ALR and SAL will continue to meet at the Cross Walk Church at 181 Wolf Pack Run in Deltona (across the street from Deltona HS athletic fields) until further notice.
Post 255 History

Our post was originally chartered Jul 19 1967 with George L McWilliams as the Commander and Lawrence Gendrom as the Adjutant. For unknown reasons, in 1997, all of the members transferred to Post 127 in Lake Helen. On Nov 22 2000 Deltona Post 255 was re-chartered in Deltona. Records at the Department of Florida do not indicate who our Commander or Adjutant were at that time. In 2001 the Adjutant was William S Harvey and in 2003 the Commander was William T Hickey. All of Deltona’s servicemen who died in the service of their country, as a mark of respect, were honored when the Post was re-chartered. On July 9 2011 the post membership voted to change the name of the post to Sgt David G. Ledgerwood Post 255 in honor and memory of Sgt Ledgerwood who was killed in action on April 29 1968 in the Thua Thein Province of Vietnam.
Since our charter our American Legion Post has been welcoming VETERANS from all branches of our Armed Forces. Today, we continue to welcome all military personnel serving our country. Joining our Post enables you to continue serving your God, Country and Community. Our mission is to implement the goals, aspirations, dreams, peace and blessings for our country, friends and families embodied in our preamble.
